A midnight march in Mandirtala, Howrah, organized in protest against the tragic RG Kar Medical College incident, took a dramatic turn when thousands of women participants expressed their anger over a TMC-sponsored Independence Day celebration held simultaneously.
The situation escalated when the irate crowd began throwing chairs, effectively blocking the road and disrupting the march. The protest, originally intended to demand justice for the RG Kar victim, quickly transformed into a confrontation with the TMC event.
According to reports, TMC MP Prasun Banerjee was present on the stage at the time. The protestors, fueled by their outrage, shut down the celebration and stormed the stage, denouncing the event as inappropriate given the ongoing crisis. The celebration program was forcibly stopped as the protestors took control of the stage.
The incident highlights the deepening tensions and growing public dissatisfaction with the handling of the RG Kar case and the perceived insensitivity of holding such celebrations amidst the crisis.
